Song Of Songs

The Canonical “Song of Songs” or Essence of Essences

1. 60” X 40″ paper

In this series of 60”X 40” paper pieces, I painted ordinary objects as representations for our psychic structure. I embossed phrases from the canonical “Song of Songs”, ( Qabalistically translated as the “Essence of Essences” ), into the paper. The English lettering is scripted from right to left suggesting Hebrew scripture as well as evoking the illusion that reality may be a mirror to our inner world.

My Peace is Uncertainty

2. 20”X 30” paper

The black lines in these smaller pieces evoke the “I Ching” or Book of Changes. Like the “Song of Songs” it is also a divination text, in this case, of ancient Chinese origin. I have fused the two concepts by embossing, once more, phrases from the Song of Songs within or under the black lines. The lines, again, represent a profound structure that underlie reality with the difference that they are all inventions of my own.
