The Playing Cards
The Card series of paintings (2003 – ) were my breakthrough paintings in the use of my transfer technique. I utilized the structure of a standard playing card, (primarily face cards), to transfer half of a completed image by taking a paper imprint and reproducing it inversely underneath it, ending up with a completed card. I was captivated by the effect of being able to make a painting without recognizing any traditional brush work that we expect to see in a painting. These works motivated me to further explore the possibilities of this process which have brought me to my present use of POLYTARP plastic, to make my paintings.
